A city designed for continuous access

Accessibility at Expo City is a journey, not a standalone feature or isolated intervention. It does not begin at a single entrance or end at a specific building. Instead, it functions as a continuous, connected system that supports movement, choice and autonomy across the entire city.

That journey begins with accessible parking, step-free entry from the metro station and drop-off areas, and a network of intuitive routes across the city with firm, stable surfaces guiding visitors through public spaces. These routes are supported by accessible buggies for longer distances and extend seamlessly across the public realm into buildings, retail spaces, cultural attractions and community areas.

We not only focus on enabling entry into spaces, but also on how wheelchair users navigate within existing buildings and how they are supported during emergencies. Evacuation chairs are distributed across buildings and facilities to ensure safe, dignified and effective evacuation for all.

To further support independent mobility, wheelchairs are available for free rental, ensuring that visitors who need them can navigate the city with ease and dignity. Complementing this, electric wheelchair charging outlets are strategically located throughout the site, enabling users to move confidently without concern about battery life or range limitations.

At Expo City, wheelchair accessibility is embedded directly into the master planning framework and carried forward into the ongoing evolution of Dubai's future centre.

This approach is reflected in the careful selection of materials, ensuring ground surfaces are firm, stable, slip-resistant and comfortable for continuous wheelchair movement. Step-free access is prioritised throughout the city, eliminating unnecessary level changes and ensuring smooth transitions between spaces. Clear route widths are intentionally designed to accommodate a wide range of wheelchair sizes, turning spaces and mobility devices.
