New Zealand
Flax Hills Forever Forest
The Forever Forest currently spans 69 hectares of land that has been retired from grazing and returned to native forest, with plans to increase this to around 100 hectares in coming years.
Indonesia
Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve (REDD+)
The protected Rimba Raya area – 65,000 hectares of peat swamp that is home to one of the world’s last remaining wild populations of orangutan as well as more than 600 species of flora and fauna and 100 local animal species – is currently listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
Peru
Tambopata-Bahuaja Biodiversity Reserve
Conserving threatened tropical rainforest in an internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot of the Peruvian Amazon, this project provides habitat for a wide variety of rare and endangered wildlife.
What is an offset and why is it important?
Carbon offsets are compensation for greenhouse gas emissions that happen elsewhere. They are important because, until we can replace all fossil fuel energy sources with alternatives, we have to offset the emissions that have already been made. In short, offsets allow us to reverse some of the damage already done.
Is offsetting for individuals and organisations?
Yes! While being aware of – and reducing – daily activities that harm the planet is still the number one action we can take, offsetting can also help individuals reduce their own carbon footprint.
Expo City Dubai’s Seeds of Change programme works via CarbonClick, a simple online carbon offsetting platform that tracks your offset purchases and provides instant end-to-end transparency – so you can see how your offsets are benefitting the environment.
